Eco-Friendly Utensils

The first place you should start is utensils. There are many sustainable materials you can choose from when picking plates, bowls and cutlery.

Recycled plastic is usually the first pick for more people. While it isn’t the most stylish, people will be willing to compromise if it’s for a good cause. Another great choice that is often overlooked is bamboo, though it’s greatly increasing in popularity.

Bamboo is a plant that has many eco-friendly benefits. For one, it only takes about 5 to 7 years to reach full maturity, which makes it highly sustainable. Second, it’s naturally antibacterial which makes it more hygienic than other options. Bamboo also has a great rustic feel to it that most of your guests will appreciate.

Make Sure You Keep it as Digital as Possible

While flyers used to be the go to for advertising events not too long ago, you can get a much wider reach through online advertising these days. Try to keep the amount of paper advertising to a minimum and go for alternative online methods. And if one of your event’s big selling points is that it will be eco-friendly, or if it is for an eco-friendly cause, then you could be sending mixed messages by going heavy on the paper.

Sanitation

You also have to make sure that you have the proper sanitation measures in place for the event. Making sure that you have enough porta potties for the attendees is essential if you don’t want people to have to go in the woods. You should also make sure that you hire a reputable company to deal with the porta potty waste disposal as well.

If you don’t know how many porta potties you should rent, a good rule of thumb would be one porta potty for every 50 guests. If you want to fancy things up a bit, you could also add a few toilet trailers and place them in your highest traffic areas.

Try to Make it a Zero Waste Event

You could take things a notch higher and try to make the event a zero waste one. This means that everything used will be either reused, recycled or biodegradable. While it’s not always an easy feat, it will do a great deal to sell your event if eco friendliness is central to it and you’ll get more help and cooperation from attendees as well.

As you can see, planning an eco-friendly event doesn’t have to be difficult. Just make sure that you have all bases covered and make sure that every aspect of the event is planned with eco friendliness in mind.
