Holding hands in the park, non stop flirty text messages in your inbox, the butterflies in your stomach. There is nothing like being in love whether it lasts for a month or a lifetime. A lot of times couples will save the romantic gestures for Valentines Day a birthday or holiday. So think outside of the box and unexpectedly surprise your partner with an eco romance, being romantic while practicing green living.
Get her some organic chocolate – I’m a sucker for chocolate. There are plenty of yummy organic brands that you can purchase at your local health food store or online. Let him/her enjoy the taste and feel better about it!
Light some candles – Save electricity and turn off those bright lights to set the mood for your loved one. Toxic free candles would be a great choice.
Give each other massages – There is no better way to say I love you than by the sensual touch of the hand. Lather up your significant other with organic oils and give him/her a nice back or neck message.
Take a bath with organic rose petals – Add some lavender or natural aroma therapies to your bath water and sprinkle some fragrant organic flower petals in it too. The commercial flowers contain pesticides and no one wants to soak in that!
Have a picnic – Pack some reusable plates and utensils in a basket or tote and enjoy some healthy organic foods while you talk and enjoy the scenery around you. Organic wine could also perk up that basket *wink wink*
Coffee date – Instead of going to Starbucks try to make your own organic coffee and use a thermos. Pick a bench in a park, “people watch” and chat.
Biking – Riding your bike is a fun earth friendly pass time activity. It saves gas from having to drive to any destination therefore reducing carbon emissions. It’s also kinder to your wallet. Share a fun energy filled afternoon as a couple riding bikes on an easy to ride trail.
Plant a tree – Planting trees protects the environment and helps to preserve traditional livelihoods and cultures for generations. You can both visit your local nursery decide which tree is best for your community. Once the tree is planted, you can watch it grow just like your love and relationship. =)
Write love notes – I always would love when my boyfriend would leave me a note on my pillow before he went to work early. Even just a simple “I love you babe” made my whole day. Consider writing a thoughtful comment on recycled paper or note cards.
Volunteer together at your local environmental organization – Volunteering for your community is a great way to give back while getting to know each other in a whole new way. There are plenty of great non-profits to choose from, just pick your favorite (mine is the Oregon Toxics Alliance).
Even if your lover is not as eco conscious as you, this could be a great way to set an example and guide them to a more sustainable way of life. Use every outlet you can to show people how well you follow the green way of life. =)
