About 40 years ago, much of the world comprehensively banned DDT. This may have been a mistake. DDT is very effective in combating mosquitoes, and if used indoors, the effect on humans and the environment is negligible. The disadvantages of pesticides, whatever they are, have to be balanced against the positive aspects.
