Solar Panel Efficiency App

Among the various environmental apps existing in app-land, none have quite helped the everyday average citizen determine the suitability of solar energy depending on your location.
Considering the possibility of solar panel installation on your quest to become a little more green and save some cash on your energy costs simultaneously? Perhaps the thought has crossed your mind, but like many, you are uncertain of the exact costs involved with an initial investment. With so much information available on the internet about the pros and cons, it can get confusing.
No matter where you live, you may have seen a solar panel or two help supplement the energy of a home, school, or government building. The question that comes to most peoples mind when thinking about the viability of solar panel energy is if it would make its money back in energy savings for your particular home roof…
…Fortunately, there’s an app for that! Leading UK solar energy resource site Solar Panels UK has you covered with the launch of their very first solar panel app for both the iPhone and iPad on the iTunes app store. This great app aids consumers who may be considering the energy savings and eco-benefits of solar panels by helping determine the potential efficiency that could be obtained. After downloading the simple application that utilizes Google Maps technology, users need only to press the “Use Current Location” button to allow the suitability checker to locate them via GPS. The option to manually enter location coordinates is also available and simply requires an address of the site and country selection from the drop down menu. Once your site has been located and fine-tuned via satellite imagery, the app then implements a performance graph overlay to identify the sustainability of the site as a whole or even specific target locations (such as a portion of a rooftop for example).
This information makes it possible to identify which portion of a rooftop or site can be chosen for optimal solar efficiency. Version 2.0 of the Suitability Checker App which is currently under development, plans to factor in variables such as sun time data and other goodies like angles, tilts, etc.
Will this environmental app save the world? Probably not, but it’s a useful tool to help the green guy or green girl help figure out if solar panels will be getting the most efficiency out a chosen roof location. This app is one of our favorites in the green category and definitely makes the top of our Free Environmental Apps List.
The app works all over the world and is completely free for both iPad and iPhone, you can view the
