Do Alternative Fuels Make The Cut [infographic]?

Alternative Fuels Infographic

Happy weekend Environmental Blog readers! (If you happen to be reading this on the weekend that is…) I was digging through some of old emails for infographics that have been pitched to me that I never got around to publishing on the blog. I thought this one was fairly interesting as it shows the differences of various green cars that you and me are most likely driving now or want to be driving in the future.

Do you own an alternative fuel vehicle or a hybrid or an electric car? If you do, did you go through the process of comparing your chosen vehicle against other alternative fuel vehicles? Either way, checking out this really great comparison is bound to have you weighing the pro’s and con’s for the next few minutes. I love the breakdown offered here by car type and by fuel type.

The biggest take away that I get after carefully reading all the details in this is my disappointment in the fuel efficiency of hybrid category. Honestly, is the best we can do 50 mpg combined highway on a Prius? Okay, okay, the Chevy Volt gets 60mpg, but that one is a little out of most peoples budgets. Some diesel models in Europe are pushing 50 or 60 mpg so why aren’t those models getting any attention and why can’t conventional hybrids get more fuel efficiency than diesel engines?

If new fuel efficiency standards begin to improve in the next decade as indicated on last weeks infographic by the Obama Administration on Gas Agenda, then hopefully these numbers will improve.
