3 Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

With all the talk about global warming, limited energy resources, and the increased price of oil, you have finally decided to see what you can do about reducing your carbon footprint. You’ve mastered the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle concept and you want to take things to the next level by making your home more energy efficient. Here are three ways to do just that.

Solar panels
The sun is the greatest source of energy we have. It provides both light and heat. You can use the sun’s energy to power your home, too. Solar panels are one investment that both increases the value of your home and pays for itself. Once solar panels are installed, everything in your home that runs on electricity can be powered by them. This will reduce your energy costs significantly. Additionally, they can produce excess energy that you can sell back to the local energy company. So not only do you help the planet and save on energy costs, you can make back some of your investment money, and eventually your solar panels will pay for themselves.

Biomass pellet stoves
Unfortunately, many homes in the UK are not heated with electricity. Boilers and radiators run on gas. There is an alternative, though, that is more energy efficient. Biomass pellet stoves will heat your home just as well as a radiator, but more efficiently. The compressed pellets are a sustainable resource that burn and leave virtually no ashes behind. The stoves also provide an ambiance radiators cannot emit.

Replace light bulbs and appliances
Other appliances in the home can also be replaced to promote energy efficiency. The less energy your refrigerator, washer, dryer, and oven require, the more you can sell to the energy company. Replacing all the light bulbs in your home with energy efficient bulbs serves the same purpose.
