Sustainable Pens: GLO Pens
GLO Pens are part of a new eco organization (Global Learning Outreach) that is providing sustainable solutions & donating their proceeds to education. The eco-friendly pens are made out of recycled cardboard and corn-plastic. Launching this year in NYC, they have partnered with a variety of specialty stores in Manhattan & Brooklyn, which now stock the GLO Pens. You can also buy these eco-friendly pens directly from their website and help support this great cause!

Corn takes a lot (almost all) of nutrients out of the soil when grown, and gives back almost none of that nutrients when eaten (and none when used in a pen, of course). It drains the top soil of anything good and thus causes us to use ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates to get the soil back to the right nutrient level to grow anything else on it. This is a huge problem which leads to things like soil erosion, chemical pollution, and the depletion of what little top soil we have on this planet. Eco friendly products are a great way to make people aware of the importance of the environment, but I don't think corn is the way to go.
