Is Your Meat Certified Humane?

When you have to put signs up that say "this animal handling and raising is certified humane", thats sad. However, signs like that raise awareness of animal abuse and neglect while reassuring that the animals were treated with decency.

Certified Humane was a program developed by Humane Farm Animal Care which is described below:

Certified Humane meets the Humane Farm Animal Care Program standards, which include nutritious diet without antibiotics, hormones, animals raised with shelter, resting areas, sufficient space and the ability to engage in natural behaviors.

The program is run under the non-profit which certifies participating businesses by annual inspections from trained individuals with backgrounds in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or other relevant backgrounds.

With all the choices and labeling we have in the supermarket, if it stands out against the regular products we are all use to, then go for it. USDA certified organic, natural, no hormones added, they all indicate a growing trend of consumers demanding more humane, and healthier choices. Wouldn't you like to know that the your hamburger from Burger King was certified humane...that would be the day =P
