Dangers of Bisphenol A

A great article over at HappyHealthLongLife.com, is warning people about the dangers of Bisphenol A and how to reduce your exposure. A quick look over at wikipedia says that BPA is an endocrine disruptor which means it acts as a hormone disruptor.

"The compound, bisphenol A (BPA), has been linked to breast and prostate cancer, behavioral disorders and reproductive health problems in laboratory animals." (-Washington Post)

Earlier this month Canada banned the use of BPA in baby bottles due to the health concerns. "Some fear the compound could leach into the liquids we drink from certain plastic containers." (-Washington Post)

A draft report from the National Institute of Health linked health concerns with BPA. California, Maryland, and eight other states are in the works to creating their own restrictions for BPA.

"As evidence mounts about the risks of using BPA in baby bottles and other products, some experts and industry critics contend that chemical manufacturers have exerted influence over federal regulators to keep a possibly unsafe product on the market."(-Washington Post)

This is yet another example of how our government is ruled by corporate interests rather than the public interest. If the precautionary principal is not employed with BPA, the United States will only perpetuate its image as Bought and Paid For by Corporations.

While the effects of BPA are questionable, it's better to be safe than sorry.

There are plenty of BPA-free alternatives out there. www.fit-fresh.com has a whole line of BPA-free plastic containers and a new water bottle - the LivPURE filtered water bottle - great product!
