Native American Tribes Speak out about Climate Change
Members from 6 tribes in the United States attended a meeting last month with the United Nations called "Indigenous Perspective on Climate Change." The consensus within the native American community about climate change is that humans have caused quite a bit of pollution that is now being visibly seen. They refer to our planet as M
other Earth and view climate change or global warming as Mother Earth's defiant nature in getting even with those who have offset the balances. For those that believe in the Gaea theory, the notion that Earth is a living organism that will do whatever necessary to sustain itself, this holds true.
As a way to fight back against climate change, some tribes in California, Minnesota, and New Mexico have taken their casino profits and used them to fund renewable energy projects. The native Americans have always had a saying which stated to use nature respectfully, never taking more than is needed. They truly believe that Mother Earth is beginning a "cleansing" to eradicate the population explosion which has taken so much more than given back. Are we as a society at that tipping point yet? Perhaps we may be soon...but only time will tell.
