Earth Sheltered Homes: Environmentally Friendly
This Low Impact Earth Sheltered Home was a site that I stumbled on yesterday in which I was inspired
to show people on this blog about it in case no one has ever really seen or heard of what earth sheltered homes are. They are the most environmentally friendly homes that can be built as they do not use up valuable resources as they are made from the earth. It took about 1000-1500 man hours with two people to build and is one way to have a minimal impact on the environment. Having a home like this reduces the cost you would have to heat and cool a conventional house. Thermal Energy is stored during the day and released when temperatures cool thereby reducing costs for temperature regulation. There are so many other advantages but I encourage you to do a little more research on earth sheltered homes. In a later post I will show some designs I have chosen as my dream home that I hope to build within a year or two.

I also stumbled on this article yesterday. I'd love to have one someday. It looks like a hobbit house, which I love. Good luck with yours.
The outside looks great, but the inside is too rustic. If it was actualy like a hobbit house inside, then I would live in it. Not for any envionmental reason, but because it would be nice. Of course, the house I would like would be bigger and would include computers and TVs and such. And naturaly, a garage in a simmilar style for a 4 wheel drive of some kind.
woo hoo! I just stumbled you! Yeah.. Keep up the great work.
i want a house like that! And I stumbled on you aswell.

Looks cool and I've heard of this before (in Mother Earth magazine or something). But wouldn't it get damp and musty inside? How much energy would you have to spend to dehumidify the thing?
Haha. I stumbled on this the other day to. I think I said something about it.
It wou;dn't get damp inside because you are suppose to put liners similar to a pool liner in between the earth and your walls to prevent moisture from getting inside your home...
Examples like this are cute, but underground architecture is generally more sophisticated. Find out more at SubsurfaceBuildings.com
My wife and I are building an earth home. We have a site, if you're interested. It has progress reports, notes, and loads of photographs.
The site is www.freewebs.com/stocktonunderground
I found your site and am always encouraged when I find more people starting to write about this subject, and I hope that there'll be more people building and living in these homes.
