Miracle-Gro Sues Small N.J. Organic Plant-Food Maker
Okay now this really pisses me off to hear some corporate giant bullying a small organic company. What is wrong with Corporate America?!? Must they monopolize everything to make more profits?!?
So here's the scoop:
Scott's Miracle Grow...famous (59% of market share, $7 billion in global sales)
TerraCycle...not so famous (annual sales of $1.5 million dollars)
TerraCycle is an eco-friendly company that uses worm waste packaged into used plastic bottles as organic plant food. It's a great idea, and the guy that started this (CEO Tom Szaky) company is only 25 years old. This company should be honored for its service to the environment...honestly!
So here comes the evil Corporate Giant that is making all sorts of bogus claims and has filed a law suit.
"They're claiming that (the colors) yellow and green are theirs," Tom added, "Miracle-Gro has sued us over advertising. I've never bought an ad."
Miracle Grow also sued for falsely claiming that its organic products are better than synthetic ones like Miracle-Gro.
Ya know what this sounds like to me? This sounds like the same tactics that Monsanto Corporation was using against milk producers putting labels on their milk that said "no artificial hormones".
It's time for people to wake up and realize that there is no corporate responsibility. When will corporations be held accountable for their actions. Certainly not with government agencies like the EPA, FDA, and USDA. It will take we the people to create and force change in this country.

I can understand your anger over the suit.
The color scheme argument seems weak to me. It reminds me of Warner Bros. suing the Marx Brothers for the use of the word "Casablanca" in a movie title after "Casablanca" itself had been released. Groucho wrote back that they were considering suing Warner Brother over the use of the word "Brothers", because the Marx brothers had been brothers since before the formation of cinema giant Warner Bros. Warner Bros. dropped their suit.
Depending on the details, it is entirely possible for "synthetic" and "organic" products to be identical. It is also entirely possible for "organic" methods to produce a lot more pollution than non-organic methods. So, while I understand and applaud the idea of minimizing use of insecticides, for example, I'm afraid that the "organic" label itself can be very misleading. For example:
Where does the fertilizer come from? All fertilizer contains "chemicals". The runoff from farms using fertilizer is damaging to streams and lakes, regardless of whether the fertilizer is organic or not.
The organic farmers use BT as an insecticide in large amounts (because it is natural), and this contains the exact same protein found in some "bio-engineered" crops.
The issue with Monsanto & milk is different in my view. I do not see anything inaccurate about the corporate claims. Bovine growth hormone is present in all cows and milk, and the hormone levels were no different in milk whether farms used Monsanto's hormone or not. I am a former Monsanto employee (full disclosure).
While there may or may not be issues about the health of the cow (are they stressed more, etc.), there seem to me to be no issues about the healthiness of the milk (I say that from a professional scientific perspective).
My wife still buys organic milk, however.
Well, yeah the fertilizer is made from worm poop. So it is a very natural a safe fertilizer that many people use now, including myself. As far as the milk thing, thats a whole other issue.
Really now, I choose not to buy milk at all, I don't care if an official ex Monsanto employee or the FDA says its safe, there are plenty of studies to contradict that, and any corporation paying for there own studies to manufacture results good enough to please the FDA...come on,
The real reason why I am practically vegan, is because of this conspiracy of the crap thats being put in our food, oh and its a conspiracy alright!
