Health Industry under attack by FDA through CAM regulations

A 17 page document has been published by the FDA on Complementary and Alternative Medicine regulation. This will affect everyone living in the United States if pushed further into the law. The FDA is attempting to re-define classifications and marketing on everyday products such as vegetable juice that make claims to better aid your health. For example, if carrot juice was marketed to prevent [fill in disease], then the FDA would classify carrot juice as a drug, and be subject to pay $50,000 for an investigation for a new drug application, $200,000 ~ millions to determine the toxicity, and upwards of $3 million on the efficacy of carrot juice. This would have to be done as a process for each disease that carrot juice has made a claim on. If allowed to become law, anything and everything from supplements, vitamins, juices, to Sobe fruit drinks could be banned unless they comply with these new standards that the FDA wants to implement. In effect, the Health Care industry will be mutilated and consumers will have extremely limited access to the freedom of consumer choice we now have. The FDA has a long standing reputation of attacking health drinks that have made claims to better your health for marketing reasons. Why are we the subjects of the FDA rule. We the people do not elect FDA officials, so it is our responsibility to write our congressman about the way we feel regarding the FDA. The FDA accepts comments from the public when enacting new regulations, and it is important that the very least we can do is write a letter expressing our concerns in regards to this CAM regulation. Submit a comment to the FDA here.

While the last day for commenting is April 30th, 2007, the Organic Consumers Association is working with congress to extend the commenting period for another six months. Please support this issue and submit a comment.

Hi. Thanks for your comments. You have a great blog here. Perhaps you might want to share it with more people by putting your blog in blog directories. I wrote an article listing the blog directories. You can also search the net. Submission is mostly free. Good work!
